Grandma
just sent this recipe to a friend. wasn’t sure if graham crackers were gluten free but she says she can get them so she will try the cookies for her daughter. is the condenced milk gluten free does anyone know. too sweet for me so I don’t have any to check.

Yes, the condensed milk is gluten free. The only food substances that contain gluten are grains such as wheat. There are some grains that are gluten free so you would need to check for those. ALL Meat, Veggies, Fruits, Dairy etc. Are ALWAYS Gluten free. So many products on the shelves have a “Gluten Free ” label slapped on them that is a false indication that other brands of Meat, milk, etc might have gluten. So very misleading.

Condensed milk is just milk cooked down with sugar added. Nothing with gluten so yes it is gluten free.

I grew up on these, and even though I claim that I don’t like coconut, I love these, so go figure. Literally. The figure goes when I eat these :)
I use oatmeal instead of coconut flakes. Different but good.

Is there a specific way to layer this? Picture seems to show coconut on top. Do you pour the condensed milk over the top? Does anyone have any tips on making them?

Melt the butter pouring it in the pan and then start layering the ingredients starting with the first ingredient after the butter. When you get to the milk just pour it over everything as if it were a layer and then end with sprinkling everything with nuts if you are using them. Thee really aren’t too many tips on making them because they are so easy you just layer the grahams (which are like the crust) and start sprinkling everything else. If you accidentally put the chocolate chips and then the coconut it will not make any difference because it all melts together. The reason you see coconut in the picture is sometimes people garnish the top with coconut.

I count six layers. Is there something missing?
They are absolutely delicious, seven layers or not!

Since you melt the margarine in the pan first that is considered the first layer.

Jill: you’ve made me so happy! For some reason, I absolutely HATE measuring flour (probably cause I always spill it on myself) these sound great. think I’ll make them for the family 4th of july picnic, bet I can make them a day or two ahead, depending on the heat in my kitchen.

One of my favorite recipes. I do a slightly different variation of this, using peanut butter chips instead of butterscotch chips. Mix melted butter and Graham cracker crumbs and press into pan. Then sprinkle chocolate chips and peanut butter chips in a layer. Sprinkle with coconut flakes, then drizzle condensed milk on top, and then bake. (Some people don’t like nuts.)
Place the seven layer cookie bars in an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to four days or in the refrigerator for up to one week.
What Are Seven-Layer Cookies? They are called Seven-Layer Cookies because there are seven basic ingredients that are layered one by one in the order in which they appear in the recipe below: butter, graham cracker crumbs, coconut, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, sweetened condensed milk, and chopped pecans.
Stouts are definitely a good pair with chocolate chip cookies the light roast flavors compliment the sweetness in the cookie without overpowering it. Semisweet chocolate also stands up to that roast, which make the semi-sweet flavor shine on your pallet.
Information. Bakery or homemade cookies can be stored at room temperature two to three weeks or two months in the refrigerator. Cookies retain their quality when stored in the freezer for eight to 12 months. Moist bars, such as cheesecake and lemon bars, can be refrigerated for seven days.
Even better, magic bars are also freezer-friendly, so you can stash a batch to offer unexpected guests or just when a craving strikes. If you're in the mood for more dessert bar recipes, try my chocolate chip cookie bars, lemon bars recipe, or peanut butter bars recipe.
The ingredients you use and how you shape your cookies both play an important role in whether your cookies turn out crispy or chewy. The type of flour and sugar you use, if your cookie dough contains eggs, and whether you use melted or softened butter all factor into the crispy-chewy equation, too.
They really are fantastic. Basically, for Laura Bush's Famous Cowboy Cookes you take traditional chocolate chip cookie dough and stuff it with oats, coconut, pecans and a sprinkling of cinnamon. Resulting in these oh-so-chewy, flavorful and delicious cookies!
To make cookies from scratch, you'll typically need ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder/soda, vanilla extract, and salt. Specific recipes may include additional ingredients like chocolate chips, nuts, or oats depending on the type of cookies you want to make.
Can the color of the sweetened condensed milk vary? Yes, it should have an off-white color. However, as the product ages it may darken in color and thicken. As long as the Best If Used By date is still current, the product can still be used.
Popping your dough in the fridge allows the fats to cool. As a result, the cookies will expand more slowly, holding onto their texture. If you skip the chilling step, you're more likely to wind up with flat, sad disks instead of lovely, chewy cookies. Cookies made from chilled dough are also much more flavorful.
What separates whole milk from other options is its flavor and creaminess. The milk helps wash down all the delicious sugar and decadent chocolate without changing the taste of the cookie. Dunk then sip, and you're on your way to happiness! After all, life's short, eat cookies!
Perfect Bars do not spoil, they are meant to be refrigerated only to maintain the perfect taste and texture. They are actually okay out of refrigeration for up to one week! Just put them back in the refrigerator to harden up again, then they'll be good to go.
Test Kitchen Tip: If you can't keep your cookie bars in their original pan, slice them (here's how to cut dessert bars) and place them in an airtight container. Store the container in the fridge—the cookie bars will stay fresh there for up to two weeks.
How to store these Homemade Chocolate Ice cream bars. Once chocolate coating sets, you have store these Chocolate Ice cream bars in the freezer either in a plastic container or eg. wrapped in parchment paper. Make sure you do not wrap it before chocolate coating properly sets as that would remove the chocolate coat.
