Spoke to an old colleague who after 10 years of service was made redundant as part of a move to cut 700 staff. Many from the premium banking team.Premium bankers are relationship managers in the consumer/retail segment. This is a prestigious role traditionally given to people who have been promoted to the top of front line sales. Interesting move to cut this segment for a few reasons:- These are the most tenured and experienced operators in the sales channel and therefore hold the most knowledge of internal systems and processes- Because these bankers are traditionally the most tenured and also the highest paid of the retail sales channel, the redundancy payouts are much higher than their counterparts - Being relationship managers, they deal with sophisticated borrowers in a "one-to-one" relationship model.
